Man in the Cards - It Cant be Him

She was one of those people who regularly got their cards read, (well at least once a year). They all kept telling her that her man was a business man, that he had one daughter, he was well off.

Her mandala she had made years ago had a picture of a dark-haired man and woman in evening wear hiding behind masks and a picture of an Irish pub with a red door. They even gave her his star sign. He would be an earth sign, Capricorn, Taurus or Virgo.

Yep these readers over the years had almost given her a full description of this dream guy. Sounded like a pipe dream, this man in the cards she thought, but a part of her hoped he actually existed.

Her history with men of means wasn’t promising, she found most of them arrogant, stingy, boring and self-absorbed. Oh, there were exceptions who were really lovely men but they did nothing for her sexually. To be honest she had started avoiding them.

She wanted someone adventurous, someone she could be herself with, explore possibilities. Someone happy, who was able to leave the past behind or at least be open to a future. Yep a smart guy somehow did it for her. She had spent years with a man who had barely said a word so conversation even just a simple “good morning or how was your day” was high on her list. Seem like such an unrealistic wish list.

Well, be careful what you wish for because you may just get it but not the way you thought…

There was this one guy on her contact list. Kind of broody and cute but seemed to have this wall around him. He had been there for years but she couldn’t bring herself to delete him. They would say hi every now and then but that was about it. She knew nothing about him. One evening they both seemed to be at home eating ice-cream at the same time, which she thought was funny. He suggested they may as well meet and she though why not, maybe she could finally delete him, thinking he probably felt the same. Wow she thought, after all this time we finally meet. She thought he was a tradie but to her shock he was driving an expensive car. Oh no she thought. Her automatic reaction was to run barely stopping herself. She had never heard his voice before and shock number two was “he’s Irish”. The third shock of the evening was that he had a daughter. This left her reeling and totally out of her comfort zone. They enjoyed a lazy dinner, walking and eating street food. She left him that night thinking he wasn’t interested but wishing she had followed up on her impulse to sleep with him.

After a few sporadic meetings and almost zero conversation she thinks she is wasting both their time, but something about him keeps drawing her back.

An impulse sent her back to get her cards read. It had been a while. She always lets them tell her what they want. She rarely asks questions. To her horror she’s told she has already met her man and there is no other for her. She leaves there in a daze with tears in her eyes, her world in chaos.

None of the men in her world have those star signs. It can’t be him she thought. She thinks he just tolerates her. He rarely returns messages. He had never asked her out on a date and the few times they have me it’s been purely physical. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking she sighs. She feels part of herself break somehow knowing he was it for her and resigns herself to being alone.
